Thanks too for the story of Oberon. To me, it's very interesting.
These days I need that a new bird I have, begin to trust me.
He's not as wild as Oberon and I think it will be much less difficult but what you write help me very much.

What is a lap cat ??

A lap cat meant the cat must remain on the lap and be controlled by hands on the cat.

This was the way I introduced Ivan to Libai.  That part where my hands were on Ivan meant I could not shoot the photos then.  Shortly after that, when Ivan was more relaxed, I could take photos of his early encounters with Libai.

As a friend, wouldn't it be easier to find a bird born in captivity ??

I love the cat'story too
I have 2 cats too, Bonnie and Bonnot
They are very nice cats but I don't really trust them when my bird is outside.
In  the house, I think it's OK

If only Oberon just flew off deep into the jungle and out of sight it would have been that much easier for me.
His pausing at the edge of the jungle and his turning around to look at me was so bad.
I nearly wanted to go back the next day.

But life must go on.

I can understand your point of view and the African's farmer point of view too.
All that is very interesting to tak about.

But if I understood well.
The real reason why you still buy wild birds is because you don't know if you coud keep him if you have to live this country and you need to have the possibility to give your bird back to the wild... ???
